Antananarivo, Madagascar - Jean-Pierre RAFARAMANDIMBY, 43, was seriously wounded during the killings of 7 February 2009. On that day, 28 people were killed when Ravalomanana's presidential guard opened fire on Rajoelina supporters who were advancing towards Ambohitsirohitra Palace. Over 200 people were wounded. Jean-Pierre is now incapable of working and the state will pay him 200,000 Ariary (a little under 100 euros) a month for two years. Over one hundred deaths have officially occurred in Madagascar since early 2009 during clashes with the police or looting incidents.
