ZEBU WAR
December 2015 - Village of BEHAHITSE, Madagascar - Members of the "fokonolona" (community) of Betioky met in the village of Behahitse, district of Ampanihy are gathered for a "Dina Be" ceremony (reconciliation ceremony following a conflict). Most of them are former zebu thieves but have "settled down" (Dahalo niova fo). They come all the same armed and protected with their amulets (ody gasy) "just in case". They visit the fokonolona of Behahitse to claim their due: nine zebus must be reimbursed to the community of Betioky because a resident of Behahitse stole a bicycle there. The two parties meet under tamarind trees near the village market. A long "kabary" (speech) of one day will finally put the two parties in agreement. To seal this pact, a zebu will be killed and shared.
