ZEBU WAR
November 2020 - North Menabe, Madagascar - Louis KASAY and his 8 herdsmen with their 13 zebus of the barea species cross the north of the vast region of Menabe..The north of the Menabe region is one of the least densely populated parts of Madagascar and also one of the most landlocked due to its total lack of road infrastructure. Along with the southern regions of Madagascar (Androy, Anosy and Atsimo-Andrefana), the Menabe is the major zebu-producing region in Madagascar and, therefore, the most unstable in terms of security for the local populations, terrorized by the bands of " dahalo". Thus the North of Menabe is classified as a "red zone" by the Malagasy military authorities. The big breeders coming from the West who want to transport their zebus to the East, to the big zebu markets, prefer to go through the North to avoid being attacked by the dahalo.
