MADAGASCAR-ENVIRONMENT-BIODIVERSITY
Stephane Decampe , co-owner of the Jungle Nofy Hotel, carries the body of a 5-year-old female Lemur Vari which used to frequent the grounds of the hotel, to be buried on March 22, 2019, near the village of Manambato, Madagascar. The owners of the hotel believe that the killing of the Lemur was committed by angry people acting against their work to raise awareness for the protection of the Vohibola forest. For several years now, Vohibola Forest, one of the last primary forests in eastern Madagascar, has been illegally felled for charcoal production and the sale of rare wood. Some kill the harmless creatures for food, others sell them as pets -- and to get to their prey, they chop down precious tropical trees..RIJASOLO / AFP
